Wright Stander ZK Stand On Review

UPDATED: May 8, 2019

The Wright Stander ZK is the largest stand on mower offered by Wright. It is a huge mower and comparable to the new Ferris SRS Z3 mower. It comes in a 52″, 61″, and 72″ deck size with 3 huge engine options. It allows for quick turns because of how short the machine is. This machine is great for larger areas with many obstacles.

Let’s first by starting with the brand… Wright is the inventor of the stand on mower. They were the first to bring this to market and have been leading the pack ever since. Since that time, many other brands have joined the stand on market. However, Wright has always held its ground as having one of the best stand ons in the market.

Power

This stand on mower comes with either a Kohler ECV860 (29HP), Kawasaki FX850 (27HP), or Vanguard BIG BLOCK (37HP). Each of these engines are going to provide the power needed to handle almost any application. Many people become concerned about power when we get in to the larger decks. Not to worry, each of these engines are well equipped to handle the toughest of areas.

Features

  • 52″, 61″, 72″ Fabricated 7 Gauge Deck
  • Elastomer Radial Bumpers (under platform for shock absorption)
  • 15.5 Gallon Fuel Tanks (2 Tanks)
  • Hydro-Gear 16cc with Cooling Fans
  • Flat Free Caster Tires

Cut Quality

The Wright ZK features the Aero Core cutting deck. This deck is a built with 7 gauge steel throughout. They also use iron spindles that are build to withstand a beating.

The overall cut quality of this machine is pretty good. We don’t think it is quite as good as the Ferris or Scag stand ons but overall a quality cutting machine.

Durability

Wright has been around a long time and are known for their durability. This mower will withstand a lot of beating. It is engineered to last a very long time. They are specifically known for simplistic designs and easy to maintain. Everything on this mower from deck belts to pumps and hoses are very accessible.

As far as we can see these Wright stand ons are built to last a long time. They are heavy machines built of durable steel. Overall, the machine should last you a long time.

Comfort

This is a comfortable stand on however it will take some getting use to with the controls and deck adjustment. The controls are signature to Wright Standers however they do take some getting use to. It seems that people who have used Wright mowers awhile love the controls and people trying Wright for the first time don’t really like them. There just one of those things that get better with time (kind of like fine wine?)

The deck adjustment is a little annoying because the adjustment is down by your legs. Also when the deck raises and lowers it also moves the engine (it is pretty heavy to raise and lower this deck.) With the fuel tanks on either side of the operator it does feel very enclosed. Some users like this and some don’t really care for it.

The padding is a flat design that can make is easier to slide around. The fuel tanks, as mentioned above, do a good job of holding the operator in but still not the best design.

Overall, the Wright ZK is a fairly comfortable machine once you get use to it. It has some great thought into its design that allows for comfort while mowing.

Hillside Traction

The Wright ZK does very well on hills. It has a wide wheel base with very large tires. Match this with the low center of gravity and you have yourself a machine that performs well on hills.

The ZK also has a couple models that feature dually back tires. This means instead of 2 back tires it has 4. It is a unique feature that only Wright offers. We have found that this allows the machine to perform exceptional on hills.

If you have properties with a lot of hills we highly recommend check out both of the Wright ZK models.

Aesthetics

The Wright Stander ZK is an awesome looking mower. It is shorter to fit in tight areas and for loading more mowers on a trailer. It has the signature Wright look to it that so many love.

Safety

This mower is very safe featuring automatic turn off if you fall off. Also with the enclosed feeling and standing more inside the mower it gives a very safe feel to the mower.

Price

The Wright Stander ZK is priced at $10,100 – $11,100 MSRP depending on deck and engine size. This is a competitive price point for this size mower. For more information on pricing visit Wright’s website.
