Spring is here and if you are looking for the best self-propelled mower to mow your lawn the Snapper XD 82V mower may be the one. The infinite availability of lawn mowers on the market and the complicated specifications they come with might seem daunting. In this article, we try to simplify the features for you.
Should you pick a gas or battery-operated one? What is a self-propelled mower? Also, what other advancements and new features have been introduced into the market since you bought the now broken-down machine in your shed?
Snapper XD 82V Mower Overview
As the innovator of the first self-propelled rotary mower in 1951, Snapper has relied on extensive consumer research over the years to offer one of the widest selection of power equipment for your yard today.
The choice of an electric mower over a conventional gas-powered one is not a difficult one. Aside from being generally lightweight, it is usually easier to store with mechanically simpler and fewer moving parts. On top of that electrical-powered mowers do not require tune-ups and run cool on temperature.
Reviewed by hundreds of happy consumers on Amazon for its great durability and quality. The Snapper XD 82V series have proven superior in combating the skepticism in performance on engine power, battery life, maintenance, and durability when the battery-powered electric mowers first emerged on the market.
The mower’s light-weight design, ease of use and maneuverability are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to giving the range a cut above the rest, pun intended.
Zooming in on the series, if you are wondering on which specific mower to pick off the shelves, here’s an informative comparison on our top 3 choices, the Snapper XD 82V SXDWM82K, the Snapper XD 82V SXD21SSWM82K, and the Snapper XD 82V SXD21SPWM82K to help you make up your mind.
The Snapper XD 82v StepSense model is amazing. It is similar to Toro’s Personal Pace mowers. This is the first battery operated self propelled mower with this technology.
This makes driving the mower so much easy. You simple walk and the mower matches to the speed that you’re walking.
Let’s talk about the heart of all mower functions: battery muscle. 40-volt batteries are common on the market but the Snapper series has been juiced up to an 82-volt to make sure you have enough power to handle an unruly suburban yard of more than 2,000 square feet.
If you’re lawn is much larger than 1/2-1 acre you may want to look into a residential zero turn. We have a curated a list of the top 10 best zero turns in this article.
This high voltage renders you the same strength and capabilities as a gas-powered machine without having to fill up a gas tank. It also alleviates the annoying entanglement of cords. Compared with Echo’s 58-volt and Greenworks 80-volt options, I’d say that Snapper is the smart choice that packs in a quite the punch.
If you are looking for a longer life battery, you might want to consider SXD21SSWM82K. The SXD21SSWM82K machine comes with a dual-battery power head that houses two batteries to provide an additional run time of up to 60 minutes. The first round of charging would require an optimal 20 hours for the battery to enhance its capabilities before going back to standard charging.
If run time is not a priority for you, consider the SXDWM82K and the SXD21SPWM82K. Both machines run up to 45 minutes and come with Briggs & Stratton 82V lithium-ion 2.0Ah batteries.
When mowing, the machine automatically reduces your power output to preserve battery life and increases the power output to slice through thicker weeds. The technology combined with supreme power makes the machine a dream to work with.

All 3 self-propelled machines start with a simple push of a button and have a single lever with a 7 position height of cut adjustment to make your life easier. A self-propelled mower will make your life much easier by moving itself across the lawn.
Your job is to simply steer rather than forcing the full weight of the mower up every incline. Snapper mowers come with additional smart technologies to enhance your walk-behind experience.
The SXDWM82K is a regular push mower. This means it is not self propelled and must be manually pushed. This is ideal for small yards up to 1/4 acre. We wouldn’t recommend anything larger unless you want a pretty good workout.
The SXD21SPWM82K is a self propelled unit that has a bar you hold down. It is a single speed unit without much flexibility in speed. We thought this was much better than the standard push mower but not quite as good as the StepSense model.
The SXD21SSWM82K has a built-in Step Sense Automatic Drive System that intelligently adjusts to your mowing speed. This allows for an easier operating pace.
However, bear in mind that the thicker the grass, the more power it takes to cut them. The result? Ease to achieve neatly finished lawns, the envy of all your nosy neighbors.
Durability and Quality
Powered by Briggs and Stratton, the machines offer powerful, reliable and durable performance. The machines are the industry’s first 82-volt lithium ion walk mower powered by Briggs and Stratton with its 21-inch steel deck with a 3-in-1 design.
Briggs and Stratton is the world’s largest producer for outdoor power equipment for manufacturers worldwide. They have been in the industry for 100 years now. Combined with its durable frame and powerful motor, you know for sure you own a machine of enhanced quality and durability if you get a Snapper XD 82V Mower.
Mowing no longer has to be a hated chore with the comfort of this mower. It has an ergonomic handle for your comfortable steering. The mower easily fires up with the effortless push of a button.
That combined with the pleasures of mowing your lawn without having to withstand the noise and exhaust fumes that come with a gas-powered mower. The combination of lightweight materials combined with a powerful engine gives you ease in its usage. The Snapper XD comes with a pristine strength to weight ratio, increasing its maneuverability.
As mentioned, the auto-load sensing machine has the functionality that allows you to dispose of your clippings as mulch, retrieved from a bag, or discharged off to the side, whatever you prefer.
Like how all gas-powered mowers were built, the Snapper XD comes with a safety function. It uses a blade engagement lever that releases and disengaging the engine, causing the blade to stop spinning. What’s more the mower comes with a foldable handle that allows you to save 70% of storage space than a normal chunky mower with a fixed handle.

The Snapper XD comes with a 5 year warranty on the units and 2 year warranty on the batteries. This is a great warranty that is in line with the rest of the industry.
We weren’t able to find very many complaints about needing to warranty equipment. This is a good sign as this is usually the first thing people will leave a bad review about.
We can assume that either there aren’t many warranty claims or Snapper XD is doing a good job of granting warranty work. Either way, as a customer I would be happy if either of these are the case.
If you are converting from as gas-powered mower to a battery-powered one, getting a Snapper XD would be a seamless transition for you. The self-propelled lean and mean machine can easily mow half an acre without having to recharge its batteries.
It packs all the power punch and performance of a gas-operated mower, but with the ease and quiet of a hassle-free walk in the park. On top of that, the Snapper XD does not require much maintenance. You can easily get away with just sharpening your blades once a year (in most cases).
While the Snapper XD 82V is considered to be of a high-end mower saving on maintenance such as oil, fuel and air filter charges should be considered in the long run. I’d say it’s an easy choice.
Other Snapper XD Products
There are many other Snapper XD tools that use the same battery as the mowers above. This makes it easy to have multiple tools without having to buy a bunch of extra batteries.
If you start with buying a Snapper XD mower you will have two batteries to start. This is usually plenty, so you will only need to by the “skins” or the actual units.
Below are some of the other great tools offered in the Snapper XD line up.
Wrapping it up
Overall, we are very happy with the quality of all of the Snapper XD products. We have tested all of them and were pleasantly surprised with their performance.
The StepSense mower, blower, and string trimmer were are three favorite units that we think every homeowner should own. Some of these tools could also fit into a landscapers business. There are a lot of companies that are switching to electric push mowers and hedge trimmers. Since they aren’t a tool used all day, most of the time.
Either way, we hope this article has shed some light on the Snapper XD lineup. Do you have any of these units? If so, what do you think of them? Leave your comments below!
